Sixteen pages of information, ideas, and music to help you prepare your students to explore World Music and Dance

To maximize the impact of a Hi-Dukes educational program, the band has prepared a Teacher Prep Workbook, available upon booking the band at your school. It contains handout-sheets geared toward various grade levels as well as idea-generating project suggestions for pre- and post- event use.

There are pages of sheet music for simple traditional dances along with explanations of the dance steps. There are pages about the instruments used by the Hi-Dukes, ranging from Bulgarian flute to guitar. There are music theory pages describing the various scales and rhythms played by the band. Pages of word games designed to aid in the retention of terms and ideas are included. And, of course, there is information about Jutta & the Hi-Dukes, who they are, the band’s history, and much more.

In addition to the Workbook itself, for Balkan Beats Residencies with Orchestras, Bands, and Choirs, the Hi-Dukes provide sheet music in the proper transpositional keys for Concert, Bb, Eb, Viola, Cello, and Bass clefs. The arrangements of the music are quite flexible so as to allow the same charts to be used both by newer musicians (who still need to play in unison, not yet ready for playing fully arranged pieces of music) and by more advanced players.
